In review of yesterdays thoughts a reader concludes ‘that people are swayed by the charismatic charm and poise of a person. Generally they aren’t interested in policies! She agrees that most are vocal about their Christianity but still have different political viewpoints. She feels that it all comes down to the viewpoint of the media and how much influence they have in destroying our Christian values. Her prayer is for more Christians in the media, Congress, the cabinet and of the Presidency.....God’s knows what is upon the heart’!
In reference to Romans 13:3 we realize that rulers want good conduct from those they rule. In reading Romans 13:4-5 we ask these questions; 1) What does God want from us in relation to our Leaders? 2) What happens when we act evil or rebellious to our Leaders? 3) What kinds of rewards do our Leaders give?
We know that God wants us to obey our laws and our Leaders. When we do not obey our laws we are punished by the very laws instituted by our Leaders. We should be afraid! Our Leaders are ministers of God! They are the avenger who brings wrath upon the ones who practice evil. Therefore, when we are in subjection, we should always act in good conscience to
do what is right and in doing so, we will have no cause to fear.
I find verse 6 interesting. God says; "Pay your taxes"! Taxes are one of the major issues in today’s political campaign. In the NIV it says why we are to pay taxes; "For the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing". We know that the choice we make at the polls is the same as selecting a person to fill a position of employment and they are to receive a wage. We too are servants of God, making sound judgements and decisions in choosing a Godly person for the position. That is just one of our jobs! Jane Ann
