LIVING IN THE FAST LANE!
Driving on a many lane highway
in America can be known by different names but are all considered ‘freeways’. Most of them have ‘a fast lane’. In California it is on the far left of the 4, 5 or 6 lane highway. The car must have at least one passenger besides the driver. I kind of think the fast lane is a little redundant because everyone is driving fast, trying hard to be faster than the next car or at least just as fast. Isn’t there a rule of thumb that you must go with the flow of the traffic so you don’t cause an accident because you are too slow?

When we lived in California I use to be one of those on the freeways. However, then there wasn’t as much traffic as there is today. When we visit California now, Jim has to lay aside his usual laid back mode of driving casual. He must be alert with both hands holding tight to the wheel and eyes vigilant, knowing that at anytime he is going to have to become defensive. When Jim is under these conditions, he becomes a different kind of person. It shows me that with Jim there can always be surprises in store for me.

Living the fast lane is sort of driving offensively. We want it now and we don’t care who we have to take it from to get it. We want to be there now, and we don’t care who we hurt to get there! We want success today, and it doesn’t matter how many we trample to reach the corner office! I want to be like everyone else, because I don’t want to stand out like a sore thumb. You probably can think of many more cliches that will help make my point.

Slow down! Look around and enjoy the flowers as you smell the roses! Become alive with knowing that the air can be filled with perfume and sweetness! Don’t excel so you can be like all the others. Excel so that you can become the person that God has created you to be.

Galatians 6:7 says; "Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap". A scripture we seldom look at is found in Hosea 10:2; "Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain salvation upon you". When we listen to the fast talkers and buy into their wares we are hobbling ourselves just like a horse is hobbled to keep him from running away. Receiving the desires of our hearts can only become the norm when we turn our lives over to the Lord and dwell in His steadfast love. Living with Jim has helped me to slow down. He has always been able to drive like he had a speed control even before they were put on cars. Think about who you are when you allow the world to move into your space. Jane Ann
