CELEBRATIONS! Happenstance's

Happenstance's is a time of happenings. Some happenings are not good but bad; maybe sad or even a chance occurrence. Some happenings are considered fortunate or perhaps joyous. Happy spontaneous events put a spring in our step and we want to celebrate.

Jim would come home from work, many times, and tell me he got a raise. We would celebrate! Many times we have an amount of money we can spend on groceries and after paying the clerk, we have money left over. Praise God! Let's go to lunch! We celebrate. We pay bills three times a month because that is when we get paid. We have money again, let's celebrate!

Spontaneous celebrations come often and more times than not, Jim and I are always ready to celebrate. Are you? Do you take advantage of those special splashes of joy that come your way and celebrate? If you don't, you should. Life is far to short to pass up any opportunity to laugh, enjoy the moment and celebrate.

My sister Joyce started a tradition within her family, that live close to her and Chuck. Every Sunday night they all come together at Grandma's and Grandpa's house where Joyce prepares a feast. Joyce and Chuck never seem to do anything halfway. They have a big house and big yard that sits in the middle of 7 acres. They have a big table which includes a big welcome to all. They have lots of grandchildren and life is good. They celebrate family every Sunday night!

Remember reading in the Old Testament about the great celebration that God instituted for the Israelites? The name came from the custom of proclaiming it by a blast on the trumpet. Every seventh year was a Sabbatic year and the Jubilee followed immediately after one of those years. It would occur the tenth day of the seventh month in the fiftieth year. It was a time to proclaim liberty to those in bondage and for all possessions that were sold or given away to be returned to their original owners. Even the ground was to remain fallow the year of the Jubilee, even though it had been fallow during the year of the Sabbatic. There were some other things that would happen regarding property, but I am sure you get the picture.

God never goes halfway when he has a plan. Can you imagine a two year vacation? No work only play, no worries just rest and receiving back your antiques and your loved ones are home again? Even the name God gave the celebration, gives way to joyful shouts of glee; of anticipation of relaxation and not to mention two full years.

Some years ago, we took two of our grandkids to the Centennial celebration in Bonanza which is about 40 miles S/E of Klamath Falls. A small town of farmers and ranchers who still seemed to live in a time warp of the 40's and 50's. It was fun experiencing their country ways, even to the games that the boys played; throwing fresh eggs and hoping not to drop them and watching the parade of farm equipment, and animals. Their Jubilee was mostly one day with two extra days to set up and clean up. However, fun was had by all. Come Monday they all were back to work doing whatever they normally did Monday thru Friday. No two years here!

During hot weather thru the summer and even the coldest of days in winter, Jim will say to me; "Lets go for a ride!" I know immediately that means we are going to go and get an ice cream. I am ready in a flash and off we go to celebrate because whenever there is ice cream, a celebration
is about to happen.

"Let your fountain be blessed and rejoice in the wife of your youth." Proverbs 5:18 I love this verse! Likewise, you could say; "Let your life be blessed and rejoice in the husband of your youth." Our marriage vows has a line that says; "Remember your courtship's smiling days." Treat your family as guests and your guests as family and everyday becomes a celebration. Keep your heart light and your mind set on things above. By Jane Ann Crenshaw 11/13/09
